Se ha dado a conocer la lista de 91 canciones elegibles para las nominaciones a la “mejor canción de un película” de los próximos premios de la Academia de Hollywood, los Oscar.

Entre ellas, algunas escritas o co-escritas por algunos artistas veterano como Peter Gabriel, Sting e Iggy Pop.

Entre las posibles nominaciones al Oscar están “The Veil” de Gabriel, de la película “Snowden”; “The Empty Chair” de Sting, del filme “Jim: The James Foley Story” y “Gold” de Iggy Pop, de la película del mismo nombre.

No sería la primera vez que una canción de Peter Gabriel fuese nominada, ya lo fue “Down To Earth” de 2008 en la edición 81 de los Oscars, pero le arrebató el premio “Jai Ho” de A. R. Rahman, de la película “Slumdog Millionaire”.

Sting fue nominado a la “mejor canción original” casi tres años consecutivos, 2000, 2001 y 2003, por “My Funny Friend and Me”, “Until…” y “You Will Be My Ain True Love”, pero en ninguna de las tres ocasiones logró ganar el premio.

Iggy Pop, sin embargo, sería la primera vez que le lograse tener una canción nominada al Oscar, de lograrlo completaría un 2016 absolutamente triunfal, uno de los mejores años de su larga carrera. Por de pronto “Gold”, co escrita por Iggy y Danger Mouse, ya ha sido nominada a los premios Golden Globe.

Para ser elegibles, las canciones deben tener texto y música originales escritos específicamente para la película, y que aparezca en la misma “una interpretación claramente audible, inteligible, sustantiva, de la letra y de la melodía” o como canción principal de los créditos finales del filme.

Las nominaciones para la edición 89 de los Oscars serán anunciadas el 24 de enero.
